Program Overview

History

Our Canterbury Campus, located in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and right in the heart of a beautiful cathedral city, is a perfect place to study History.

The academic team are all professional historians, active researchers and published authors of national and international acclaim. The course they’ve designed allows you to follow your interests wherever they may lead. In your second and third years you can study a specific period or mix-and-match several.

Delve deep into history and build your knowledge of the past within a city that is steeped in history. From the world-famous Canterbury Cathedral to the ancient St Augustine's Abbey, our campus is just footsteps from these fascinating sites, so you can immerse yourself in history from day one. Our History course is also highly rated nationally:

International Relations

Knowledge of international affairs and skills of clear-sighted political analysis are needed more than ever before, as our traditional political ‘certainties’ crumble.

Taught by experts in a stimulating and inclusive environment, you will gain a historical understanding of the development of nation states and its contemporary relevance.

Examine a range of contemporary global political issues and problems (e.g. global poverty and foreign aid; war and military intervention; security; global governance and diplomacy; climate change; the ethics of torture; migration; racial and gender injustice), the obligations states and political actors might have in responding to these challenges, and explore the links between identity, conflict, diplomacy, and models of governance to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.

We place a strong emphasis on transferable skills with a focus on employability. You’ll gain skills in critical thought and analysis, team work, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.

Our graduates are now working in a variety of sectors including the civil service, international non-governmental organisations, journalism, law, and teaching.
