Program Overview

The Diploma of Computing addresses a significant market demand for skills associated with the design of distributed computing environments and the networks that underpin them.

Learn about computer technology, hardware and software, as well as computer communications and network management. Study the fundamentals of programming and theoretical knowledge of computing.

 

Leading to: Bachelor of Information Technology

This course covers fundamental programming and security skills of modern computing and computer networks, specialising in various aspects of distributed computing.

You will use Python as a tool for learning network and other programming. Linux skills are taught throughout the course, starting with the basics and progressing to advanced topics.

You’ll develop a sound knowledge of computer systems and processes involved in software development and maintenance.

Curtin works closely with industry partners to optimise course content and this degree is designed to prepare you for careers in high-demand areas of computing.

You will learn to:

  • Apply computer networking concepts to develop solutions and protect systems related to information technology
  • Evaluate information technologies in a manner that is appropriate for a given problem and think critically and creatively to generate innovative and optimum theoretical and practical solutions
  • Identify, evaluate and synthesise information from a range of technology sources to optimise the process of network design and implementation
  • Document information technology activities and artefacts and communicate them in written and oral form to both technical and non-technical audiences and communicate effectively in ways appropriate to the audience and purpose
  • Effectively use new and existing technologies, recognising their advantages and limitations
  • Sustain intellectual curiosity by updating their knowledge, engage in continuous training and research, and take control of their own learning and development
  • Recognise and apply IEEE/ACM/ACS standards and best practice in process software design and development
  • Contribute to society using technology in an ethical, legal, and socially responsible manner

    The Curtin Singapore 25% Academic Scholarship program awards eligible students a scholarship for the following programs:

    • Diploma pathway programs
    • Bachelor's degree programs
    • Graduate Certificate programs

    • Master's degree programs
    • Study Abroad
    • This scholarship is only applicable to the programs listed in each category above.
    • Entry requirements will vary depending on qualification and must be met to be eligible for the scholarship.
    • The scholarship will be applied to each trimester/semester tuition fee instalment.
    • The scholarship will not be applied to repeated units.
    • The scholarship is not deferrable to any commencements beyond the selected intake.
    • The number of scholarships available is limited and not all eligible students may receive an award.
    • Students in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary from Curtin will not be eligible for this scholarship.
    • To retain eligibility for the scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), the recipient must remain enrolled in the initial course (except for a change of major).
    • Students who apply for Leave of Absence, withdraw or terminate will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
    • The scholarship is not transferable to any other course or to other Curtin University campuses.
    • Students who receive this scholarship are required to represent Curtin Singapore as a student ambassador.
    Merit Scholarship (International) 30%

    The Curtin Singapore 30% Merit Scholarship program awards eligible students a scholarship for the following programs:

    • Diploma pathway programs*
    • Bachelor's degree programs
    • Graduate Certificate programs
    • Graduate Diploma programs
    • Master's degree programs
    • This scholarship is only applicable to the programs listed in each category above.

    The Curtin Singapore 50% Tech Scholarship program awards eligible students a scholarship for the following programs:

    • Bachelor of Computing (Cyber Security)
    • Master of Computing
    • Master of Artificial Intelligence
    • Master of Cyber Security
    • Graduate Certificate in Predictive Analytics
    • Graduate Diploma in Predictive Analytics
    • Master of Predictive Analytics – Data Science major
    • Eligible students will receive a 50% scholarship for the program tuition fee.
    • The scholarship will be applied to each trimester/semester tuition fee instalment.
    • The scholarship is only available for new students commencing in the first three intakes of the selected new program.
    • The scholarship will not be applied to repeated units.
    • The scholarship is not deferrable to any commencements beyond the selected intake.
    • The number of scholarships available is limited and not all eligible students may receive an award.
    • Students in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary from Curtin will not be eligible for this scholarship.
    • To retain eligibility for the scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), the recipient must remain enrolled in the initial course.
