Diploma of Engineering
The UOW College Australia (UOWCA) Diploma of Engineering provides a program of study involving students in first-year core engineering subjects, but with additional levels of support which enhance their opportunity to succeed. Students in the Diploma of Engineering will be supported in the introductory phase of this course through subjects specifically designed to prepare them to undertake study in the engineering disciplines. These subjects assist students to develop approaches to effective learning in the higher education context. In sessions 2 and 3, subjects include the study of theoretical and practical units, and hands-on experience in the area of engineering. In sessions 2 and 3, students are provided with dedicated support tutorials to prepare them for success in their university studies.

Successful completion of the Diploma of Engineering provides students with entryinto the second year of Bachelor of Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering andInformation Sciences at the University of Wollongong (UOW). The course alsoprovides students with a broad educational and skills base as preparation for a varietyof entry level positions in industries and businesses requiring engineering knowledgeand aptitudes

Diploma qualifications are located at level 5 of the Australian QualificationsFramework. The purpose of the Diploma qualification type is to qualify individualswho apply integrated technical and theoretical concepts in a broad range of contextsto undertake advanced skilled or paraprofessional work and as a pathway for furtherlearning

Progression to: Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Architectural Engineering
Architectural engineering bridges the gap between the professions of architect and engineer. If you are interested in engineering and ecologically sustainable design this degree will develop your integrative design skills, and inspire you to create buildings that are functional, efficient, beautiful, stimulating and have minimal environmental impact.

What you will study
You will study a common first year allowing you to learn more about engineering and its different fields. The common first year provides you with sound fundamentals in mathematics, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science and communication, mechanics, materials and fluids.

From your second year you will focus on architectural engineering where you will learn about net zero energy, minimum environmental impact buildings that are integrated with renewable energy. Study areas include integrative and collaborative design studies, construction technology, history and theory of architectural engineering, project and practice management, environmental and cultural studies.

This degree
This degree includes a 12-week hands-on industry placement, and you may also be eligible to gain credit for relevant work experience, either in Australia or overseas, by participating in our Professional Options Program.

Through regular exposure to industry professionals and our multi-disciplinary Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, as a graduate of this degree you will be industry-ready and capable of contributing to creative, integrative design solutions.
