The Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control Technician program provides a foundation in the industrial instrumentation trade. This program emphasizes practical, hands-on experience in applying, installing, repairing, calibrating, and tuning measurement and control instruments used in industrial manufacturing processes.


The program

Students in this program will:

  • Install and maintain field instruments that are part of large-scale manufacturing systems. These instruments may be digital, electronic, pneumatic or hydraulic devices.
  • Learn to program computerized controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that preform the required function within the manufacturing.

Half of the programs duration is dedicated to hands-on activities using industry-standard equipment, ensuring graduates are job-ready for various related fields.

What grads can do

Graduates of the Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control Technician program can pursue employment as a technician in the instrumentation and control field across diverse industries. Graduates can also transition into an apprenticeship at an advanced level with an industry sponsor.

Practical learning activities are conducted in the world-class Spartan Controls Centre for Energy Education and Research. This facility has two common unit operations, and a steam plant.
