International students in Canada are classified on the following types for income tax purposes:
To become a Resident of Canada for Income tax purposes, you must establish significant residential ties with Canada.
Resident of Canada
You are a non-resident for income tax purposes in Canada if you do not have significant residential ties and stay for less than 183 days during the year.
Non-resident of Canada
Without significant residential ties to Canada & staying in the country for more than 183 days, make you a deemed resident of Canada for tax purposes.
Deemed Resident of Canada
If you have strong ties to Canada and are a resident of another country with a tax treaty, you may be a non-resident of Canada for tax purposes.
