Program Overview

The Human Resources Management program will provide you with the skills required to optimize the potential of employees, while maximizing your organization's effectiveness.

Program Highlights
Human Resources managers deal with such diverse and complex areas as:

  • Recruitment and selection
  • Orientation, training and development
  • Employment and pay equity
  • Employee and labour relations
  • Health and safety
  • Salary and benefits administration

In this six-semester program, you'll learn how to address all of them through:

  • Participation in a full semester placement, which provides the opportunity to gain real life work experiences across a variety of the functional areas of Human Resources
  • Hands-on, industry-specific simulations and activities that allow learners to apply concepts to real world HR scenarios
  • A common first year in the School of Business and Information Technology where you can build relationships with students who may be your future colleagues, clients or trading partners
  • Coursework that allows HR students to develop the understanding required to strategically support other Business disciplines within their organizations

Why Choose Fleming
Our Business Administration-Human Resources Management program offers:

  • A full semester placement to gain real life work experiences and develop skills that parallel the Human Resources Professionals Association's (HRPA) Professional Competency Framework
  • Completion of the nine HRPA approved courses required to write the Comprehensive Knowledge and Law exams, necessary to achieve the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation
  • Encouragement to join the local HRPA chapter, attend monthly meetings, and network directly with local area HR professionals
  • Faculty who are HR industry professionals and certified as Human Resources Leaders (CHRL) by the HRPA
  • Pathway programs that may allow for direct entry options into related university and post-grad programs

Work Experience
In addition to a full semester placement - where you will be mentored by an HR professional, and engage in activities and projects that allow you to learn by doing - you will:

  • Participate in a collective bargaining simulation
  • Analyze your performance conducting a video-recorded selection interview
  • Create a recruitment campaign for a real-world job
  • Develop and deliver a training program
  • Analyze a job and build a job description
  • Evaluate job content and conduct a salary survey to develop a compensation plan
