If the idea of helping people find solutions that protect themselves and the ones they care for appeals to you, then this two-year diploma program is for you. Our insurance courses will teach you the fundamentals of insurance and you’ll study underwriting, claims investigation, risk analysis and contracts which will prepare you for a range of entry to junior-level career paths in this growing industry. A paid co-op work term will also provide you with valuable work experience for your resume.

Co-op Opportunities
The Business – Insurance program offers a cooperative education component, which provides students the opportunity to gain invaluable first-hand experience within their chosen field. Here are some co-op jobs that have kick-started the careers of some Business – Insurance (Co-op) students before even graduating! 

Business Initiatives Coordinator - assist with business development and user acceptance testing, track and report project status and provide back up for the insurance sales team.

Associate Claim Advisor - investigate, negotiate and settle auto physical damage claims, while providing quality customer care and controlling loss costs, expenses and claims reserves.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the organization and structure of both the General and Life Insurance Companies.
  • Analyze the coverage provided by the various policies currently available through insurance companies.
  • Follow the proper principles and procedures used in adjusting losses and settling claims and to complete and explain the necessity of the documentation used.
  • Recognize and evaluate the various factors affecting the acceptance and underwriting of any insurance risk.
  • Enter and retrieve client information utilizing computer and various word processing and spread sheet packaged programs.
  • Understand the underlying role of accounting as an information system for planning and controlling business operations.
  • Develop an awareness of human relations in the work place and apply effective interpersonal skills.
  • Understand basic economic principles and how they relate to business.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the legal system and legislation affecting business in general and the insurance industry specifically.
  • Understand and apply the marketing techniques used by insurance companies, brokers and agents.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Appreciate the social, political and cultural aspects of our society.
  • Appreciate the importance of business and corporate responsibility.
