Program Overview

Computational Biochemistry allows you to complement your studies in biochemistry with a rigorous program in computer science, mathematics, computational methods and data analysis. It will give you a strong background in core areas of biology and chemistry such as genetics, cell biology, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. You will take a variety of lecture and laboratory biochemistry courses, including bioinformatics. Optional courses allow you to focus on areas such as molecular genetics, pharmaceutic drug design, functional genomics and protein structure and function.

In the Computational Biochemistry program, training in computer science and a solid foundation in biochemistry will provide you with the tools needed to analyze and manage vast amounts of genetic data.You will be exposed to the core areas of biology and chemistry, including genetics, cell biology, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry, as well as general and experimental biochemistry, bioinformatics and molecular modelling.
Optional courses allow you to focus on areas such as molecular genetics, pharmaceutical drug design, functional genomics and protein structure and function.

Scholarships

Carleton University has one of the most generous scholarship and bursary programs in Canada. Last year, more than 15,000 scholarships and bursaries totaling over $31.9 million were awarded to undergraduate students.

Entrance Scholarships

If you have been admitted to Carleton with an admission average of 80 percent or better and meet language requirements, you will automatically be considered for a renewable entrance scholarship. The admission average we use is calculated from the marks submitted by your high school in support of your application. Entrance scholarships are offered for fall entry only. You may be offered a renewable entrance scholarship provided you are entering Carleton for the first time and have no previous attendance at post secondary educational institutions. If eligible when admitted to Carleton, the scholarship value will be determined by your admissions average as calculated at the time of admission. Entrance scholarship offers are not assessed or reassessed on final high school grades.

If you are an excellent student transferring from another Canadian university or college program to a full-time undergraduate program at Carleton, you may be eligible for one of our scholarships for transfer students.
