Program Overview

The Bachelor of Midwifery prepares you for entry to professional midwifery practice. You will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to provide quality, woman-centred care through safe and effective midwifery practice in accordance with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council standards for practice.

Study areas include anatomy and physiology, midwifery theory and practice, primary healthcare, perinatal mental health, care during preconception, pregnancy, labour and birth, and early parenting.

Graduates will be equipped to work in multi-disciplinary teams and in partnership with women to contribute to healthier outcomes for mother and baby.

Graduates of this degree will be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and practice as a Registered Midwife across a range of settings.

    How to apply
    Students’ eligibility for Scholarships will be assessed by the Southern Cross admissions team at the time of application to Southern Cross. If you are successful, we will advise you in your Letter of Offer, along with the conditions of the Scholarship. Eligible students will only receive one of the following scholarships.

    For academically outstanding future international students in all fields of study. The key criteria are to exceed the academic and English entry requirements for the program and present themselves as an outstanding academic candidate.
    Value: $8,000 maximum fee reduction per year for the duration of your program.

    The course of study: Any undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at the Gold Coast.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Apply to study for an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at either the Gold Coast, Lismore, or Coffs Harbour campus.
    • Exceed the minimum admission entry requirements of the University with consistently high academic performance. Assessment of academic excellence will be undertaken by the Southern Cross admissions team on application to Southern Cross University.
    • To maintain scholarship eligibility, students must pass all the requirements for all enrolled units in each Term. Students must be meeting the requirements of the program.
    • Students must meet the attendance requirements of their program and visa conditions to remain eligible for the scholarship

    Selection criteria: Decisions to offer a student a place on the Vice Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship will be determined against the following criteria:

    • Candidates' previous academic history and other meritorious achievements may be considered as part of the selection process.
    • All other eligibility criteria must be met – ATAR 75 (all courses have different ATAR scores to be converted, so kindly contact the Assistant Recruitment Manager to know the scholarship criteria).

    No separate scholarship application form will be required.

    • Southern Cross Global Regional Scholarship 2024 - $8000 per year*

    Southern Cross Global Regional Scholarship supports undergraduate or postgraduate international students studying at our Lismore and Coffs Harbour campuses at Southern Cross University.
    *This is based on standard full-time international student enrolment of 8 units per year.
    Value: $8,000 maximum fee reduction per year for the duration of your program.
    The course of study: Any full undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at either the Lismore or Coffs Harbour or the National Marine Science Centre campus (No GPA required. You must meet the entry requirement of the course only.
    Eligibility criteria: Students wishing to apply for the SC Global Regional Scholarship are required to satisfy the following criteria

    • Apply to study an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree at either Lismore, Coffs Harbour, or the National Marine Science Centre campus.
    • Meet the admission entry requirements of the program you have applied for. Assessment of eligibility for this scholarship will be undertaken by the Southern Cross admissions team on application to Southern Cross University.
    • To maintain scholarship eligibility, students must pass all the requirements for all enrolled units in each Term. Students must be meeting the requirements of the program.
    • Students must meet the attendance requirements of their program and visa conditions to remain eligible for the scholarship.
    • Citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand are not eligible to apply.
