How to Prepare to Study Abroad.webp
There are a lot of things that one needs to keep in mind before having stepped on some foreign land to study. The process of choosing the right course and the university can be a little difficult as there are innumerable options available all over the world to get oneself educated.

The opportunities offered by overseas education is immense, the reason why International students make up their mind to go abroad to learn new skills and kick start their careers. No matter how prepared one is to go and study in some other country, there is always some anxiety at the back of one's head.

Here are some of the tips that one must keep in mind before heading to some other country to pursue education:

Passport and Visa

To go to some foreign country, it is recommended that one has a valid passport to travel and study there. It is advisable to have blank pages in the passport and it is not expired otherwise you will not be able to travel to some other country.

To be able to study abroad one has to have a study visa and the requirements for the same differs for every country. So, it is advisable that one goes through all the requirements to make it possible to study abroad. One needs to be patient to receive the study visa as it can take several months in the process.

Insurance

Travel, health and accident insurance can come to your rescue if something happens to you. One must check if the insurance provider would aid and cover if something happens to the person abroad, which isn't the case with most health insurers.

International students can also get insurance for the luggage, evacuation during health or natural emergencies, personal belongings etc. The student discounts may also be available and one has to check how to avail the same.

Accommodation

This is one of the most important things to keep in mind and it is possible that your University will not assist you in this. International student support centres, which are not only present in the universities but also in cities, help International students in getting the University accommodation where one can live.

There might be a possibility wherein one may not be able to get the university accommodation and in such a case, one would have to do some research to find some accommodation that is near to the university.

Expenses

First and foremost, one must have enough money to be able to survive abroad even if the student doesn't find the part-time job, which usually doesn't happen. It is advisable to open a bank account in the country that one is travelling to, which can be done easily online.

International students must inform bank and credit card companies, well in advance, regarding their plan of going abroad so that the bank account is not closed and the credit or debit card doesn't get blocked. One must take some denominations of the local currency as it is possible that one may need to buy certain things in the first few days of having arrived in the new country.

Research

There is a lot of learning when one goes to some foreign country. To be able to learn the culture and how things work out in the new country, one would have to do the research so that one can mix up well in the new environment.

To make the maximum out of the limited time available, one has to do the required research to get to know about the restaurants, fun activities and places to explore. Do learn some common phrases that people use in that country to be able to gel well in the new culture.

There are many other things that need to be taken into consideration before going to the new country such as:

  • Getting an international sim card that is compatible with your mobile phone.
  • The kind of lifestyle one might have to get used to in the future.
  • The kind of weather that is suitable to ones body and mind.
  • Getting in touch with some travel doctor that maintains your medical records and can advise some medicines that can be of help while travelling to another country.
  • Getting the plane ticket at a lower cost by booking 3 months in advance.
    Being mentally prepared.
