Renewing the study permit

If the student wants to extend his/her stay in Canada as a student, he/she is required to complete the Application form for ‘Change Conditions’ or ‘Extend Your Stay in Canada’. We recommend you to apply for the extension of your study permit before the expiry of your study permit. You should apply for renewal for not less than 30 days before the expiry of your current permit.

NOTE:

• In case you apply for a renewal of your study permit, and the permit expires before you receive an answer, you are permitted continuing study in Canada under the same conditions until you receive a decision.
• You should take care to apply to renew your study permit, in case you plan to travel outside Canada and your permit shall expire during that time.
• It is not possible to extend your study permit beyond the expiry date on your passport.
• You would be required to immediately leave Canada if your study permit has expired and you have not applied for an extension.

Restoring your status

You are permitted to apply for the restoration of your status as a student within 90 days of losing it, in certain cases. You are permitted to apply only if you have continued to meet the requirements under which you were allowed to enter and stay in Canada. Also, you should have met all the conditions imposed on your permit.

After you apply to restore your status, you may stay in Canada until a decision is made on your application but you are not allowed to study until your status has been restored.

The acceptance of your application for restoration of your student status is not guaranteed. Complete details of all the facts and circumstances that caused you to lose your status must be provided on your application.

Apart from the fee for renewing your study permit, there is also a fee for restoring your status. The fee is required for each family member who has lost status. To find out more we recommend meeting one of our counselors at our office.
