Entry Requirements

These are general requirements. In some special cases, students could well apply for credit waivers/lateral entry, or may even be considered on the basis of exceptional and relevant work experience. Contact Canam counselors for details

Usually for studying in Canada, you are required to meet certain criteria, including:

• You need a school, college, university or other educational institution in Canada to accept you.
• You are required proving that you have enough money to pay for your: a) Tuition fees b) Living expenses for yourself and any family members accompanying you to Canada, and c) Return transportation for yourself and any family members accompanying you to Canada.
• You need to be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record. Also you should not pose any risk to Canada’s security. You might be required to produce a police certificate.
• You should be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary.
• You need to convince the immigration officer about your intentions to leave Canada after the completion of your studies.

Exceptions

In certain cases a study permit is not required for attending a Canadian school, including:

• If you plan studying in a short-term course or program
  a study permit is not required if you plan taking a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You will be required completing the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
  Even if a study permit is not required we would advise you to apply for one before coming to Canada. If you decide that you want to continue your studies in another program after you complete your short-term course or program, you must apply through a Canadian visa office outside Canada for a study permit if you do not already have one.
• Foreign representatives to Canada
  A study permit would also not be required in case you are a family member or staff member of a foreign representative to Canada accredited by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. You should contact your embassy in Canada which can further contact the Office of Protocol at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada to see if a study permit is required by you.
• Members of Foreign Armed Forces
  You would not require a study permit if you are a member of a foreign armed force under the Visiting Forces Act. Your family members, including minor children, willing to study in Canada, are required to meet the requirements.
