Application Process

For Undergraduate Courses

Usually, the academic year in Canadian universities and colleges is divided into two semesters, the fall semester (Sept-Dec), and the winter semester (Jan-May), with a short vacation at Christmas. Most colleges also offer a summer semester starting in May.

Though the university deadlines are generally from mid December to the end of March, but might also vary from institution to institution. There can be a rolling policy followed by the colleges wherein they would accept applications while processing time still permits.

As the last dates can vary from institution to institution, you should visit your nearest Canam office to confirm the application dates.

You will be required to complete and sign the application form yourself, and attach official transcripts/ academic records, plus application fee of your chosen institute(s) in the format acceptable to them.

The institute will inform the Canam counselors who in turn will inform you in case of any additional information if required. Now you would get an admission offer from your chosen university and on accepting that you will receive the official letter of acceptance.

You apply to the Canadian High Commission for a student authorization (Visa).

Graduate Application Procedure

The enquiries must be sent to the respective universities or colleges at least 15-18 months prior to the proposed date of admission. For getting the application forms, you can visit your nearest Canam office. We would assist you in filling the application forms. Also our expert counselors would provide assistance and guidance for preparing your SOP (Statement of Purpose) and LOR (Letters of Recommendation).

A three year Bachelors degree or Diploma will be sufficient for the post degree/post baccalaureate or post diploma programs offered at the Canadian Colleges. For a Masters, you would be required to have a degree, which is comparable to a Canadian Bachelor degree (a minimum of 16 years of formal education). It would imply qualifying in a professional four-year degree like engineering or other such courses, in India. Some Universities also offer a Pre- Masters/ Qualifying Masters ranging from 3 months to one year depending upon the number of credits they expect you to pre-qualify for the Masters with.

While applying for Masters degree courses, you will have to submit an official transcript from each college or university that you have attended after secondary school with complete details of the subjects/credits involved (for each year) and other details like correspondence courses, diplomas etc. This procedure is to be done for each and every college that you have attended. More than one copy of the transcript can be asked for by certain universities. The transcripts need to be in English.

You will have to first complete the graduate application form accompanied with the required application fee. The application fee can cost somewhere between C and C0 per application and can be submitted either through a credit card or bankdraft. Note: Your application will ONLY be processed once the Canadian institution receives the application fee.

[Advantage Canam: Some Universities waive off their application fee for applications going through Canam. Many other universities and colleges waive off their application fee when they visit Canam offices for student recruitment or while on the Canadian Universities and Colleges Admissions Fair and Workshops held in April and September of each year across India. Pl check the website for details on these dates or be in touch with your closest Canam office.]

Many Canadian institutions prefer to receive an online application form rather than paper applications for faster and easier processing. Our expert counselors thoroughly assist you in filing the online as well as filling the paper application forms.

The application fee for online application is usually paid by credit card.

You can also download and print the application form and courier it together with a bankdraft for the application fee. The same should reach the institution before the application deadline, which varies with each institution. To know about the deadlines, take the assistance of our counselors, who are continuously kept abreast of all the latest information about the various institutions in Canada. We would advise you to submit your application form to your institution of choice at the earliest possible.

Note: You are NOT required to wait until your final exam or semester results are released to submit an application!

Your application and documents should reach the institution before the stipulated deadline for supporting documents. If you don't have your final results yet, you can begin by sending in your available results i.e. mid-term, semester or forecast results first. The final results can be couriered later. Please ensure that all academic documentation submitted, must either be original documents or certified in English by the issuing Institution. It should also be sealed in the issuing institution's envelope. Contact your Canam counselor for details.

We would recommend you to send your application form, bankdraft and academic documents by COURIER for faster delivery and easy tracking. You should not post/mail these documents. To keep the burden off you, experts at Canam would do all the work for you from guiding you in filling the forms, to preparing the bank drafts, attaching all the necessary documents in an acceptable format, and sending your application forms to the institutes of choice. Visit your nearest Canam office for further assistance.
